Meet the Moms Behind My Super Foods! | Union County Moms

I’m so excited to introduce you to Katie Jesionowski & Silvia Gianni, local moms and co-founders of My Super Foods!

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
Katie: twin daughters, 10 years old
Silvia: boy/girl twins 10 YO, son 8YO and daughter 2YO

How long have you lived in (your town)? What made you decide to live here?
Katie: it will be 8 years this summer. When we decided to leave NYC, we asked everyone we knew that lived in NJ and knew us well, “where should we look?” They all said Summit, Chatham and Madison, so we started there. Silvia already owned a house in Warren, so she moved there initially and then started looking at towns closer to NYC to save her husband from the commute. Summit was on her list, but she almost moved to Maplewood. I bought all of her kids sweatshirts with SUMMIT across the front for Christmas and BAM! they ended up finding a house 1 mile from ours. We joke about those sweatshirts all the time, but are ultimately so grateful to live so close together.

What’s your favorite family activity Chatham, Madison or Summit?
We love hiking in Watchung Reservation, especially around Lake Surprise. We also love STRYXE bowling and Escape Room in Madison, Sundays at the Farmers Market and Summers at the town pool in Summit

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop Chatham, Madison or Summit?
Chatham – Sorriso Kitchen and Serenade, Madison – Il Goccino Ristorante and Central and Main, Summit – Summit House and Village Trattoria

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Katie: I’m 6 feet tall and saw New Kids on the Block as my first concert when I was 9
Silvia: was born in Portugal and can speak 4 languages

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
Each OTHER! Seriously. The number of texts, emails and phone calls about parenting we share between the two of us is insane.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Our company is MySuperFoods and we founded it in 2011 when we were both living in NYC and raising our 18-month old twins. We met when we were pregnant and bonded over that shared experience and ultimately our love of food. The company started over a playdate. Silvia had just left her career in investment banking and I had already left advertising. With four 18-month olds between us, we were constantly seeking nutrient dense snacks that we could rely on and not worry about, on-the-go. Any parent knows that snack time happens 3-4 times a day (or more!) and if they want clean, organic ingredients, they also need something that their kids will actually eat. We created MySuperFoods to help.

Soft MySuperSnacks, crunchy MySuperCookies and crispy MySuperPops. Nine delicious products across 3 snack lines. Organic, nut free and packed with superfoods not found in other kids’ snacks like chia seeds, baobab and coconut oil. Bite for bite, we beat the competition at flavor and nutrition. And best of all? Kids love them.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
We have so many friends and supporters in this area. We are constantly being sent pictures from our friends of their kiddos grabbing our products at Boxwood coffee or opening up their latest order from Amazon or their shopping cart at BJs Wholesale Club. There is a genuine spirit of cheering us on.

In 2018 we were recognized as the first recipients of The Summit Interfaith Council’s Hunger Housing and Homelessness Committee’s Corporate Community Champion through our social mission that helps end child hunger. To date, we have donated over 235,000 meals through our 6 food bank partners across the country, including the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and locally, GRACE’S Pantry. We have always been proud of this work, but now, more than ever.

What’s your favorite form of self care?
Yoga, meditation, travel, good wine, grace when we lose our cool as mothers (in and out of quarantine!)
