Meet a Mom: Meet Sally Allen! | Union County Moms
Check out our latest Meet A Mom interview below with local Chatham mom Sally!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I was born and raised in Chatham Township (even born at Overlook Hospital).
We left Chatham when I was in high school and then lived in the Detroit area, Princeton, NYC and Boston before returning to Chatham to raise my own family. We chose Chatham because it’s a great place for a kid to grow up.
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
2 boys
JP is a 17 and Senior at Chatham High School
Chris is 12, 7th grade at Chatham Middle School
Favorite things to do with your kids?
Everything at the Jersey shore—dive in the waves, paddleboard, kayak and boat.
We all love to play tennis, but unfortunately, not with each other.
Favorite places to eat & shop in the area?
I’m partial to shopping and dining local. I can find most of what we need in Downtown Chatham, Summit and Madison. We love the street dining in Summit—I think they did a great job moving everything to outdoor dining. Piattino and Summit House are my favorites.
Favorite form of self care?
Putting down my phone and taking the dog for a long walk is my ME time.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Last winter, just before we all went into shelter in place, I started my own Direct to Consumer Shoe Company. I am the sole importer and distributor of footwear from TANYA HEATH Paris, www.tanyaheathus.com. It’s the first multi-height shoe that interchanges with every heel in the collection. I love it because it’s not only a beautiful, handcrafted shoe, it creates endless options for versatility, efficiency and sustainability.

My Special Interest is Innovation in Education and have been a Trustee on the Chatham Education Foundation. I currently in my second year as President of the organization. This occupies a lot of my spare time.
If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
It’s OK to “lean out” and take the time that you want and need with your family. When you’re ready to come back to work, take time to figure out how to build your career or business around the lifestyle that you want to create for you and your family.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
For many years I had a great career in Retail and Consulting. I was on the road a lot and worked long hours. 6 years ago, I made a personal choice to “lean out” to focus on my family and other aspects of my life, with the hope of coming back again.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
There is so much talent locally! I have found experts in just about every discipline from digital marketing and photography to import/export right here in Chatham! Plenty of amazing entrepreneurs to help support each other.
