Meet a Mom: Meet Kristen Cullen! | Union County Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I grew up in Fairfield CT.  After living in New York City for 11 years after college, my husband and I settled in Chatham, where we have lived for the last twelve years.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
We have three children, 2 sons (13 & 11) and a 9.5-year-old daughter.  We also have a dog, Casey, our 4-year golden retriever.

Favorite things to do with your kids?
The kids and I love to take walks, play games (Stratego, Connect 4, and chess are family favorites), and watch TV or movies together.  I also still very much enjoy reading out loud to them. We love food in this house, so a lot of time is spent together cooking it, baking it, or simply sitting down to enjoy it around the table.

Favorite places to eat & shop in the area?
We eat most of our meals at home and I feel like I spend most of my shopping time at Whole Foods… Take out options we enjoy are Chipotle and Tino’s Artisan Pizza (Madison). D’Oro Ristorante in Chatham is a hands down family favorite.  I love shopping for gifts at Quartet and Purple Aardvark, both located in downtown Chatham.

Favorite form of self care?
I find running outside and acupuncture equally therapeutic.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?
After completing a certificate program as a nutritional therapy practitioner in 2019, I founded a nutritional therapy consulting business, Food First NJ.  I work individually with clients, as well as teach a class, concentrating on lifestyle and dietary changes as ways to help clients reach their mental and physical health goals. There is so much teaching and support needed with these changes, aspects of this work that I particularly love.  Feel free to check out my website at www.foodfirstnj.com.

If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Be open to creative suggestions and constructive feedback.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you… I have watched every episode of Law & Order SVU.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
There are many amazing women doing many amazing things in Chatham and having them as neighbors, friends, and role models has helped give me the push and desire to do and be more.
