Meet a Mom: Meet Ashley La Fond! | Union County Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am originally from Toronto, Canada! I moved to New York more than a decade ago and most recently lived in Brooklyn. We are very new to the area – we moved to Chatham in December!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?
I have a 9 month old, Hunter (and a big fluffy labradoodle named Harvey, who would definitely say he’s our first born!)

Favorite things to do with your kids?
Right now our favorite thing to do is go for walks around different neighborhoods! On the weekends we love going to Loantaka Brook Reservation, it’s beautiful and paved, so perfect for walking the dog and pushing the stroller.

Favorite places to eat & shop in the area?
Haha, does take-out count? We haven’t done much exploring yet with Covid, but look forward to the day when we can do it safely.

Favorite form of self care?
I start each day with a 20-minute meditation. I’ve been doing it for years and it has had the biggest impact on my mood, energy levels and general well-being. I also love to cook and and try to work in some movement every day.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I am the founder of a professional organizing company called Of Space + Mind. We launched in 2018 with the mission of helping people free their minds, by organizing their spaces. We provide full-service organizational solutions for homes and businesses.

If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Don’t let fear hold you back – if you have the passion, skill and tenacity for an idea, you’ll find a way to make it successful. Also, practice the three D’s: Do (it now!), Delegate (anything you can, to focus your energy and time), Delete (anything that isn’t important to your business, so you can dedicate your time to what is!).

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
When I was 18, I deferred my College acceptance to travel the world for 9 months! I took a gap year and travelled all through India and Europe. As a mother myself now, I can’t believe my parents let me go so young…

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Our business is largely referral based, so community is so important to us! With Covid, I haven’t had the privilege of meeting many locals yet. If you are a designer, real estate agent or anyone looking for organization, please reach out and follow us on Instagram – we look forward to being a part of this special community!
